Chapter 02 of 05

Format &
Structure.

The INBDE is a two-day examination with 250 questions each day, for a total of 500 questions. Each day is divided into two sessions with a break in between.

DAY 1 STRUCTURE

Day 1 focuses on the biomedical and clinical sciences — the foundational knowledge that supports clinical decision-making. Questions are heavily integrated, requiring you to apply basic science concepts to patient scenarios.

You'll have approximately 4 hours per session. That's about 29 seconds per question on average. Pacing is critical — don't get stuck on individual questions.

DAY 2 STRUCTURE

Day 2 shifts toward clinical application — diagnosis, treatment planning, patient management, and ethics. The cases are more complex, often with multiple sequential questions based on the same patient scenario.

Question Format

All questions are multiple choice with 4 answer options (A, B, C, D). Some questions are case-based — presenting a patient history, radiograph description, or clinical findings before asking several related questions. There is no partial credit.

Content Distribution

The INBDE tests 17 content areas. No single area dominates the exam, but some carry more weight than others. Anatomy, Pathology, and Periodontics consistently appear heavily. Jurisprudence and Ethics, while smaller in volume, are high-yield because they're largely memorizable.
